Frequently Asked Questions
Honest Answers to the Things Families Ask Us Most
What's the difference between home care and a care home? +
A care home is a residential building where multiple people live and receive care. Home care (also called domiciliary care) is the opposite — care delivered to your loved one in their own home, on their schedule, around their routine. Most families prefer home care because it preserves independence and avoids the upheaval of moving. We deliver home care exclusively.
Will my loved one always have the same carer? +
Wherever possible, yes. Continuity of care is one of our highest priorities — we know how much it matters that your loved one sees a familiar face. We carefully match clients with a small, consistent team of carers. When the regular carer is on leave or unwell, we send someone from the same team your loved one already knows.
How quickly can care start? +
In our core service areas (Bolton, Horwich, Westhoughton, Farnworth, Bury, Wigan), we can typically start care within 24 to 48 hours. For extended coverage areas, larger packages, or specialist care, lead times are usually 5–10 days. The first step is always a free, no-obligation home assessment.
What is a free home assessment? +
A free home assessment is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation in your home (or somewhere convenient for you). One of our senior team will meet you and your loved one, listen to what's going on, ask about preferences, routines, and concerns, and then prepare a tailored care plan and quote. It usually takes around an hour. There is no obligation to proceed.
How much does home care cost? +
Our hourly rate is £30, with bank holidays at £35. Live-in care starts at £1,050 per week. Every care plan is unique, so we always provide a personalised quote after a home assessment. Full pricing details are on our Care Costs page.
Do you accept direct payments and personal budgets? +
Yes. We work with families paying privately and with those funding care through direct payments, personal budgets, or local authority arrangements. Packages must align with assessed care needs and agreed funding levels. We can support you through financial assessments if needed.
What if we don't get on with our carer? +
It happens, and it's nothing to feel awkward about. If the match isn't right, just tell us. We'll arrange a different carer from your team — usually within a day or two. The relationship between client and carer matters too much to leave to chance.
Are your carers trained? +
All carers complete the Care Certificate during induction, plus full training in medication administration, moving and handling, infection prevention, safeguarding, dementia awareness, mental capacity, health and safety, and equality and diversity. Carers working with complex needs receive additional specialist training (PEG feeding, catheter care, palliative care, etc.). Refresher training and supervision are ongoing.
Are your carers DBS-checked? +
Yes — every member of our team holds an Enhanced DBS check before they ever enter a client's home. We also verify references and right-to-work for every employee.
What's the minimum visit length? +
30 minutes. We don't do 15-minute drop-ins — we don't believe meaningful care can happen in that time.
What about weekends, evenings, and bank holidays? +
We deliver care 24/7, 365 days a year. Our hourly rate is the same on weekdays, evenings and weekends. Bank holidays are charged at a slightly higher rate (£35/hour).
How do I get started? +
One phone call. Ring 01204 773083 or use our enquiry form, and we'll arrange a free home assessment at a time that suits you. From there, you decide whether you'd like to proceed.
