Our Story
Heart of Gold Homecare: Inspired by Love, Driven by Purpose
Heart of Gold Homecare was born from a personal story of resilience, love, and a determination to create lasting change. It all began with my sister, who was born with a rare genetic condition, Pycnodysostosis.
Pycnodysostosis is a rare inherited disorder that affects bone density and growth — meaning every day brought new physical challenges, frequent hospital visits, and a level of care most families never have to imagine.
Her life, though heartbreakingly brief, left an indelible mark on my heart and became the foundation for my vision of compassionate care.
For 18 months, my parents and I stood by her side through every hospital stay and procedure. Alongside the medical challenges, we faced the emotional strain of navigating a system that offered little support. Social services, at times dismissive and inaccessible, left us feeling isolated and overwhelmed. When my sister passed away, our grief was accompanied by a powerful realisation: countless families endure these same struggles in silence, unaware that compassionate care could transform their journey.
Determined to make a difference, I pursued a career in healthcare, gaining the expertise and understanding necessary to address these gaps. Studying nursing and working in the field gave me the tools to provide care that truly uplifts families. My younger brother, who shares the same rare condition, continues to inspire me. Watching my parents navigate his care with unwavering strength reinforced my commitment to supporting families like ours.
My personal journey has also been shaped by caring for my grandmother and aunt during their battles with cancer. Witnessing their courage and experiencing the physical and emotional toll of their conditions strengthened my resolve to create a service that offers not only medical care but also kindness, understanding, and dignity.
Heart of Gold Homecare embodies all these experiences. It is a service built on empathy and a desire to ensure no family feels unsupported or alone. Today, our team stands as a beacon of hope, empowering families to overcome challenges with compassion and care.
This is more than a profession—it is a tribute to my sister, a testament to the strength of my family, and a commitment to making a difference for others. At Heart of Gold Homecare, every client is treated as part of our extended family, because we know that care begins with understanding, and love is at the heart of everything we do.
